I don't buy organic. I just try to grow as much as I can and cook more than eat out.

I will say that I was bothered by Food Inc. Have you seen it? It's basically all about how evil Monsanto is...supposedly. We buy beef from a small family farm and I used to get produce from a co- op. Am I a hippie?
;-)

No, I haven't seen "Food, Inc." but I am aware of a number of things that Big Agra is doing.

And as a kid, I remember there were always a couple of rows of corn or beans with a "sign" next to them, given to my uncles at a free or reduced rate so as to experience the increased crop yield and convince them to buy their products...

I suppose that what they really did was to disconnect the farmer's "head" from his business... at least the part of his head that involved experimentation in increasing crop yields. The farmer thereby became "stupider" and more reliant upon "corporate experts"

It's a mess.

Farming has changed so radically in just a few decades.

I don't know what the future holds for small family farms.

You know, I think I'm becoming more of a libertarian every day...
