I empathize with Gurang... reminds me of myself as a boy!
Growing up in San Jose, my neighbor and I supplied our entire block with illegal firecrackers and bottle rockets that we bought for $8-$10 dollars a brick (of 80 packs of firecrackers) or gross of bottle rockets in San Francisco's Chinatown and resold for $0.25 a pack/piece. It paid for all our expenditures...
It seemed a little unclear as to which woman Gurang blasted, but ultimately it matters little... its' the "sentiment" that I appreciated. ;)
San Jose is nice... but a bit too expensive to raise kids. The house my parents bought for $16k (3 BR Ranch) now sells for close to $1m. I moved away in '82 and bought a 4 BR Colonial in MD to raise my family in.
Santa Clara (the county surrounding San Jose) was once filled with my relatives. My uncle Louie's Dad and Grandad had both been State Senators. He sold out in the 80's also, and took his house, a nineteeth century Victorian, with him to the Sierra foothills (Placerville) where living was still affordable and reassembled it. My other uncle built a house near him, and my dad moved to Hawaii around the same time.
Silicon Valley destroyed the once agricultural community I grew up in and loved.
And we're doing okay. The missus is currently in a bit of a tizzy since her mother's live-in boyfriend received his "lung cancer" diagnosis... and she's the family "medical expert" (an RN). Other than that, it's going well.
Thanks for the input, fj. I thought the reference to the cell phone should be enough, that it was one of the girls recording the whole thing ... Gurung was having his revenge for being outstaged.
I really liked the pictures. Is the man on the first one holding a cane your Uncle Louis?

ps - Isn't Holi coming up soon? Diwali isn't for a while... ;p
Thanks fj! I have one question, though: Is the ending all right? Does the last line blend nicely?
YEs, Holi is coming soon ... it's on 21st actually.
MY sis lives in San Jose. My mother is with them these days. It's a nice place, they say.
How are you? How is the missus?

Yes, that's him. He was starting to go blind... hence the white cane.
