Don't make me envious. I spent all week "making sausage," trying to get my engineering colleagues and their managers to address some schedule "performance issues" so that we'd have a chance of catching our next possible ride into space, as our "commercial" host was bought out by a foreign company and can no longer serve as our geosynchronous platfrom.
But with restlessness come 'opportunities'... In my case, I pull out some Zizek and before you know it, he's got me thinking in a whole new way! I'm pretty familiar with his Lacanian 'system', but he's constantly elaborating and exposing new avenues of thought to pursue. And without that, I really have no purpose except to make money for my wife to spend.
I could certainly do that, but then I'd have to begin the search for an entirely new life, as my wife would immediately divorce me and throw me out. I would certainly survive, but my wife has a certain "lifestyle" and expectations for its' uninterrupted continuance which, if I stick it out at work for another 8 years, would bridge the gap between now and eligibility for Social Security/Medicare benefits.
'And he used to say, that one ought to live with a restive woman, just as horsemen manage violent-tempered horses; "and as they," said he, "when they have once mastered them, are easily able to manage all others; so I, after managing Xanthippe, can easily live with any one else whatever."' (Diogenes LAeritus.)

I like the quote AND the scripture, fj.
It's a good reminder.
:-)
Yeah, I was on a roll with this theme a while back. :)
Nicrap got me started quoting Lear @ your place.
I wish I could chew the fat with you guys more.
Things have been crazy around here.
Ditto. This week's a bear.
I, on the other hand, have all the time in the world and dont know what to do with it... :p

heh. Half of it was Greek to me, but i hear ya.
I could make do with a little ennui 'til the holidays are over. Instead, everyones burning the midnight oil. I'll never get back to reading Zizek. :(
I am rarely satisfied, either way. When I have too much work, I am too stressed. When I have too much "free time" I am restless.

I can spend days sitting in my chair doing nothing, really have, and still do.
I've got eight more years to go before I'll be able to say the same...
ps - Did I say, "I hate you," yet? ;)
lol.
Frankly, what is to stop you to do the same ... right now?
Think what i am really asking is, can't you give up your job? (May sound naive but i am asking in all sincerity.)

Besides, would Socrates leave Xanthippe?
lol. It is certainly good practice. ;)

Jealousy, thy name is Jen.
Jealous? No.
Incredulous.
It's no biggie, though.
